WTD 2024: "Let's us Promote Tolerance, Respect, Peaceful Coexistence in Abia", Amb. Atuloma-Loveday

September 27 Abia: As the world celebrates World Tourism Day 2024 today, Amb. Onyekachi Atuloma-Loveday has sent a goodwill message to the tourism community in Abia State and Nigeria in general insisting on responsible tourism activities in line with this year's theme to Promote Tolerance, Respect, and Peaceful Coexistence in Abia.

In her message, Amb. Onyekachi Atuloma-Loveday, who is the Chairman, Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria (ATPN) Abia State and the Chairman Tourism Management Institute of Nigeria (TMIN) Abia State, stated that, "Today, September 27th, we join the global community to celebrate World Tourism Day 2024 with the timely theme "Tourism and Peace."

"A we reflect on the transformative power of tourism, I want to emphasize its potential to foster peace, understanding, and economic growth in our beloved Abia State.

"Tourism is a catalyst for cultural exchange, people-to-people diplomacy, and mutual understanding. It bridges gaps between nations, communities, and individuals, promoting tolerance, respect, and peaceful coexistence.

Atuloma-Loveday outlining the benefits of tourism in the State of properly harnessed revealed that, "In Abia State, we have a rich cultural heritage, breathtaking natural attractions,and warm hospitality. By investing in tourism, we can:

1. Create jobs and economic opportunities for our youth.

2. Showcase our unique cultural identity to the world.

3. Foster community development and infrastructure growth.

4. Enhance our global reputation and attract foreign investment.

5. Promote peace and understanding through cultural exchange.

She emphasized that Abia State has the potential to become a leading tourist destination in Nigeria, stating that historic sites, such as the Source of Imo River, Numerous Waterfalls, Mountains, Hills, Azumini Blue River, Arochukwu Cave, and Akwete Weavers,etc await exploration.

"Our vibrant festivals, like the Ekete Nshi Bende," she continued, "Iri ji Festival,Ekpe Cultural Festivals, Ohafia War Dance,Ila Oso Uzuakoli, and other festivals within us, can attract visitors from far and wide.

To harness this potential, she urged the Abia State government ably led by Dr Alex C. Otti to:

1. Develop tourism infrastructure, such as hotels, roads, and amenities.

2. Provide training and capacity-building programs for tourism professionals.

3. Promote public-private partnerships to drive investment.

4. Enhance security and safety measures for tourists.

5. Showcase Abia State's tourism offerings through effective marketing.

"As we celebrate World Tourism Day, " she emphasized, "let us resolve to embrace tourism as a tool for peace-building and economic growth, Support local tourism initiatives and entrepreneurs, Preserve our cultural heritage and natural attractions, and Welcome visitors with open arms and warm hospitality.

"Together, we can make Abia State a haven for tourists, a hub for cultural exchange, and a beacon of peace", Atuloma-Loveday concluded, as she invited the tourism community to honour her invitation on 4th of Oct for its Celebration in grand style.
