HMC Masterclass: ‘Elevating Guests Experiences: From Welcome to Farewell', holds September 30th

Organizers of the annual Hotel Managers Conference & Awards have called on all hotel and hospitality professionals involved in guests relations services to avail themselves of this strategic opportunity to be part of the skills enhancement Masterclass intended to impact on the performance of hotel and hospitality sector across the country and beyond.

‘The theme for the September edition of the Masterclass is deliberate: ‘Elevating Guests Experiences: From Welcome to Farewell'. I have noticed a lot of below par performances in the manner with which hotels handle their guests', says Mr. Gbenga Sunday, organizer of a Hotel Managers Conference & Awards and the HMC Masterclass.

‘Our monthly Masterclass is targeted at addressing various issues arising from the operations and management of hotels and hospitality outfits in the country with the view to entrench a culture of continuous skills enhancement so we keep maintaining and adhering to best practices in the industry', Mr. Gbenga revealed.

He continued, ‘In the last 6 weeks I’ve stayed in 17 hotels! It is very encouraging to see several hotels strive to maintain topnotch standards and improving their service offerings. It’s also, unfortunate and disheartening to also observe the lapses in many other hotels…

‘We are in the hospitality business and so hospitality starts from the moment a guest calls for reservation, when he or she steps into the facility, their stay, the experiences they have while in the facilities until they check out! There is urgent need to overhaul the status quo quickly and revert to what works for the industry in order to maintain consistent standards in every hospitality outfit in the industry'.

Lead Tutor for the Masterclass is Justina Ovat. She has carved a niche for herself over years as a Hospitality Trainer and Service Design Specialist. She is the Vice President South-South, Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), President, Women in Hospitality, Nigeria and Founder, Justina Ovat Foundation. Justina is the Principal Consultant, Calabar Hospitality House Limited.

Justina Ovat, commenting on the current edition of the Masterclass, noted  that, ‘What is most important is letting the professionals and members within the hospitality industry to understand and buy into the need for personal development.’

‘The point to be made here is how the jobs of owners, managers and supervisors will be made easier if their line level employees have this knowledge. If that is achieved, it doesn’t matter what the training topic is, they will register', as she insists on the need for hotel owners and managers to buy into the quest for continuous training of their staff.
