FTAN Appoints WIHN President, Ovat as Secretary of Tourism Law Review Committee
The President, Women in Hospitality Nigeria (WIHN), Mrs. Justina Ovat has been appointed as the Secretary, Tourism Law Review Committee.
At the inauguration of the 9-man committee in Abuja, the President, Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), Mr. Nkereuwem Onung disclosed that it imperative, and desirable for the Federation to put together tested industry leaders, technocrats and experts to look at the laws and they may affect the well-being, operations, sustainability and development of tourism and related enterprises in Nigeria.
The committee headed by President, National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies (NANTA), Mrs. Susan Akporiaye are to study and review Nigerian Tourism Development Authority Act of 2022 and that of National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism Establishment, Act, duly and recently assented to as tourism laws by President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a release, the Communications Director, Women in Hospitality Nigeria, Yvonne Joseph stated that the The committee, is expected to turn in its reports in three weeks and mandated to critically study the laws and its benefits, established opportunities created for the private sector, identify areas of growth through collaboration and partnership with government.
Also to flag areas of conflict between government and private sector in the implementation of the laws, factor the roles of FTAN and other government agencies on the Council and Board of the two focal tourism agencies and; advise the federation on its position, advocacy, policies and infrastructure ecosystem needed to enhance the federation’s role in promoting tourism in Nigeria.
Other members of the committee are a seasoned hospitality consultant and renowned Professor of Hotel Management & Tourism, Professor Wasiu Babalola; faculty member of the HR and Organisational Behaviour department at Lagos Business School, Dr. Belinda Nwosu; National President, Institute of Tourism Professionals of Nigeria (ITPN), Chief Abiodun Odusanwo; National Secretary, Nigerian Association of Zoological Gardens & Wildlife Parks (NAZAP), Dr. Kabir Ali; President, Hospitality and Tourism Management Association of Nigeria (HATMAN), Mr. Samson Aturu; Vice President, FTAN North-West Zone, Prince Ayodele Arokoyo and Special Adviser to FTAN President (Special Duties), Dr. Alex Nwuba.
